Every Neotone¹ is designed and assembled by hand in Budapest. Under the noble wood, millimetric sensors simultaneously detect strike, pressure and position to faithfully reproduce the dynamics of an acoustic handpan. Professional audio electronics — 24-bit / 384 kHz DAC, 5 ms latency, 112 dB signal-to-noise ratio — make it a digital instrument without compromise.

What electronics change, concretely.
To play 10 scales, you need 10 handpans: hard to transport, bulky to store, rising budget.
A single Neotone opens up endless scales — one instrument to carry, store and pay for. And you even create your own scales.
Two players, two different scales: hard to play together or to share a scale.
Everyone loads the same scale to play together — learning and sharing become simple, and you open up to the world to play with other instruments.
In a jam with percussion, a saxophone or a bass, the acoustic handpan is quickly drowned out.
The volume is adjustable: you stay audible among the other instruments, on stage or in a jam.
Accompanying a singer is hard: a fixed acoustic scale adapts poorly to different voices.
You accompany the voice in every range and play well-known songs like on a piano or guitar — the handpan finally steps out of its niche.
Fragile and sensitive: you can’t play in full sun, and the tuning drifts over time and with knocks.
Always perfectly in tune, unaffected by heat. Choose 440 Hz or 432 Hz and transpose a scale to play in the right key with other instruments.
Very few notes. The physics of metal limits everything: size, dissonance, available space.
Electronics free up note placement: far more notes and scales possible on a single instrument.
Acoustic striking technique is demanding: it can be discouraging at first for some people, who give up for lack of immediate enjoyment.

Headphones or earbuds
To play silently, at night or in a flat. Ideally headphones with a 6.35 mm jack (or an adapter).

A mono (1 output) or stereo (2 outputs) jack cable to connect the Neotone to your speaker. Important: choose an angled connector on the instrument side — that’s what lets you rest the handpan on the floor without damaging the connector.

Essential to project the sound. My pick: the Bose S1 Pro+ (≈ €599), self-powered (8 h battery), superb in a jam or for small concerts — with more bass than the older S1 Pro, an optional wireless transmitter, and the Sub 1 subwoofer if you want real deep, warm bass.

What warranty comes with the Neotone?
Every Neotone comes with a 6-year warranty, a semi-rigid case and a charger.
Which company makes the Neotone?
The Neotone is made by Soundventure Ltd, in Budapest (Hungary). The instrument was born from the dream of two friends, Csaba and Norbert; the company was founded in 2021, with the support of MAG Instruments and Yishama Ltd. I’ve travelled to their workshops in Hungary several times: I personally know Csaba and Norbert as well as the whole team (Gergely, Dániel and the craftsmen at MAG Instruments, and Yonathan from Yishama). I’m also an official beta tester for the brand since 2023 — since the first Neotone¹, I’ve reported and helped fix thousands of bugs and suggested many improvements.
Who is the Neotone for?
For everyone: playing a digital handpan requires no prerequisites. It quickly becomes essential for stage musicians (looping, plugging in pedals), for studio recording, for night players (headphone play) and for digital nomads. And for players already won over, it opens up the infinite field of scale creation.
Does it feel the same as an acoustic handpan?
The experience differs from acoustic play: the sound doesn’t come directly from the instrument but from headphones or a speaker. Upsides: full immersion on headphones, adjustable volume, no more feedback on stage. Bose L1 systems are ideal; the Bose S1 Pro is an excellent portable option.
Is the Mutant identical to a real “mutant” handpan?
No. The extra notes are played via a distinct zone inside each tonefield, which requires soft, precise playing. You can enlarge this zone up to 30% of the note for more comfort.
I’m a beginner — do you recommend the Neotone?
Both models are perfectly suited to beginners. Playing the Neotone is even easier than playing an acoustic handpan: sensor sensitivity is adjustable, so you get a true sound from the very first strike. The Mutant requires slightly more precise playing for its extra notes, but lets you go much further in harmony.
Do I need extra gear to produce sound?
The Neotone is a self-contained digital instrument with its own sound engine: it doesn’t need a computer to work. It has no built-in speakers, so you need to connect it to a speaker (for example the standalone Bose S1 Pro+) or play with headphones to hear the sound.
Can you apply effects to the Neotone’s sound?
As with an electric guitar, you can connect any external gear: effects pedals (Boss OC-3), loop stations (Roland RC-505 MKII), reverbs (Strymon Nightsky, Hologram Microcosm).
Is the Neotone portable and battery-powered?
Yes. About 8 hours of continuous playing. It ships with a charger, usable whether the instrument is playing or not.
